Smithsonian Art Museum conservation resources. The Artists’ Materials
Center is an applied research organization at Carnegie Mellon University
dedicated to helping museums,
libraries and archives improve the ways of caring for their collections.
For over 50 years the Center has been a world leader in discovering
the origins of aging problems that threaten cultural property, and
in developing
practical and effective strategies to inhibit or avoid deterioration.
The technical understanding and innovation that the Center provides
enables the maintenance of our cultural heritage for future generations The Getty Conservation Institute works internationally to advance the
field of conservation through scientific research, field projects, education
and training, and the dissemination of information in various media. The Cotsen Institute of Archaeology at UCLA and the J. Paul Getty
Trust have formed a partnership to create a new program awarding a Master's
degree in Archaeological and Ethnographic Conservation. The first class
of students begins in Fall, 2005.
