Junior standing in materials science and engineering, its equivalent, or consent of instructor

Description

This class introduces students to the broad field of biomaterials from a materials science perspective focusing on synthesis, structure and properties of materials and how they impart their bioactivity and biocompatibility. The course includes materials used for human repair such as permanent implants, devices, materials for drug delivery, and scaffolds for tissue regeneration. The course also discusses biological synthesis of materials, structure-property relations relevant to biological function or biomedical applications of materials, as well as biological response to synthetic materials.
